Abstract

Four page leaflet-brochure printed by SDS, circa 1970. The group’s awareness of the ecological crisis is significantly advanced – in sharp contrast to the environmental myopia typically displayed by most Monash radicals. Much of the material on the subject of ecology is directly copied from North American publications (e.g Ramparts) and authors (Ehrlich, Bookchin etc). Note the 1969 Ron Cobb cartoon. Also note Victorian Premier Henry Bolte’s quote deploring "pollution of the mind". The leaflet prophetically points to the "threats to our existence" from the "greenhouse effect" and suggests "it may already be too late". - [Ken Mansell]
