Abstract

Pamphlet on the Federal Powers Referendum initiated by the Curtin Labor Government to provide the Commonwealth with sufficient power under the Constitution to lead Australia during the course of post-war reconstruction. Opposition to the referendum was led by Menzies and Fadden. The referendum, held on August 19, 1944 was lost 46% to 54%, with only SA and WA in support among the states.
