- Abstract
Very little is known about A Constitution for the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. Published in 1915 in Melbourne, there are only two known hard copies in existence in the world: one at the State Library of Victoria; and one in the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam, probably the copy of German anarchist and historian Max Nettlau (1865-1944), who bequeathed his papers and library to the Institute and who cites A Constitution for the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth as an example of utopian writing. Typical of this genre in the early twentieth century, this pamphlet advocates state ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange; ultra-democratic procedures for elections; complete freedom of expression and association; and the egalitarian, compassionate and pacifist principles of Christian socialism.
