This article criticises modern art for not achieving the discoveries that an art of "realism with a social content" can. Recent modern art is described as "introspective and individualistic", with Surrealism singled out for criticism. The article also criticises Trotsky's rejection of proletarian culture, claiming that this encourages bourgeois culture under socialism.
