- SHAC Rally
Activist from the SHAC collective addresses the rally at around 1.30 pm Wednesday 7 January 2008. SHAC (Student Housing Action Collective) was formed to support homeless students and had been occupying these 4 joined terrace houses in Carlton for several months providing around 20 students with free accomodation. On Monday 5 February, the Supreme Court in the State of Victoria granted the University of Melbourne, which owns the property, the right to evict the squatters. SHAC successfully resisted the eviction for several days. At 6am on 14 January the students were evicted by 30 police officers without notice.
