Summary
The World Economic Forum was established in 1987 as the an organisation for "public-private cooperation". It succeeded the European Management Forum which, in 1976, introduced a system of membership for "the 1,000 leading companies of the world". (World Economic Forum website, accessed 25 August, 2017)
