Summary
People for Nuclear Disarmament (PND) formed in Melbourne in October 1981. It became the major coalition in each state, within which many existing anti-nuclear groups retained their names. The three major aims of PND were: a halt to the mining and export of uranium; the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Pacific Ocean and a zone of peace in the Indian Ocean; and withdrawal from the United States alliance and removal of United States bases from Australia.
